I started out in the early 1980's I forget which radio I had, but the antenna was a mobile whip with a magmount, sat on a big biscuit tin which was bolted to the wooden fascia underneath the gutters. I moved on to a half wave Silver Rod which served me well for 20 years !
We then moved to live in Turkey for 10 years, where I daren't put up a vertical, not knowing what the authorities would think. I made a T2LT wire antenna, and used this in a horizontal configuration, and a 9 foot tank whip antenna with magmount placed on top of my solar heating tank. It was on this antenna I had a few great contacts into Canada, plus lots more around the world.
Radio has always been my main hobby, either home based or mobile. Now living in Blackpool, I have 3 x antennae on the gable end of my house. and enjoy nothing more than DX'ing. |
