Because it was cold. And I was sick, and couldn't go outdoors for several days, and having some really odds and ends of things, I cooked up this ridiculous antenna in the garage that has tuned out quite well as an EFHW:
It is made of PVC fittings, a piece of 3/4" EMT, a fishing pole with wire in it, a 3/4" x 4' wood Dowel, some wire that makes up a cage as part of the radiator ( I wondered how it might affect bandwidth), and the GP radial set I have had laying around. The entire thing is 17' long from about 16" below the GP radials to the tip of the fishing pole wire. It is sitting at 26' currently. It held its own talking to Brazil and Colombia with the 5/8 @ 33' FP, and the Merlin @ 36' FP this afternoon.

How about that! Very interesting!! Thank you for sharing the experience. I must admit I like antennas that use fishing poles, but man the pvc cage is too cool.
I don't do much surf fishing any more and have been contemplating an antenna with at least one of my old 11 or 12 foot surf rods
I hope to hear you on the band. --73, Joe

Have you done this double bay loop?
I am wondering if the L dimension is for the whole side, or times two???
is this a CB antenna or another band? it's pretty long, and interesting.

Are you wanting to see the antenna I started this thread with or the Double Bay Loop posted above?
If it is the Odd Vertical - OEFHWV - then what parts of it do you want close ups of? I can try to get the whole thing closer up, but details suffer when I take in the entire length in the photo.

Hi Homer,
I have not built this antenna. It is only a image I found searching the internet and remember reading some about it. I was looking into high gain antennas and I feel this would be a great gainer, and easy to build unlike a Bazooka Dipole. Just trying to join in on the fun your having |
